INVISIBLE INSTITUTION

Maggie’s Centres, a collaboration of architects designing cancer care centers, entail a mix between medical and community architecture. By omitting electronic equipment and emphasizing open spaces, natural materials, and exposure to sunlight, they establish a home-like atmosphere that promotes patient comfort and healing.

Contemporary Japanese architecture takes advantage of daylighting and natural materials to create meditative, relaxing spaces. Examples include Tadao Ando’s designs and modern houses such as the O House in Kyoto (Hideyuki Namayaka) and the Minimalist House in Okinawa (Shinichi Ogawa).
