III. INSTAGRAM ICONS

InstaMap.png

Tokyo’s architecture and commodities have evolved along with its housing units. For an example, the Asakusa region
showcases the city’s connection between its historic temples to the construction of malls and shopping districts.

According to photographs posted on the social media website Instagram, visitors of historic sites seem focused on the architecture and general ambiance of their surroundings. It represents how visitors of these sites put much focus on both the construction and religious and and historic value of the temples, shrines, and gates they depict.

Meanwhile, Instagram images of modern areas, ranging from shopping streets to malls to amusement parks, appear more consumer -based. To elaborate, more attention is placed on products sold at more modern settings, such as food at restaurants, pottery, and other accessories.

These photographs demonstrate Tokyo’s characteristic balance between architectural spectacle and consumerism associated with urban society. Even though people seem to visit malls and shopping districts in large abundance, the older religious architecture still gains much respect and tribute by its own viewers, whether said appreciation
derives from its artistic construction or their spiritual and religious meaning.
